Michael Moore: Support for Israel will cost Dems 'more elections'

Filmmaker Michael Moore weighed the U.S.’s ongoing support for Israel amid its war with Hamas in Gaza, suggesting that if Democrats continue to support the Jewish State, “more elections” will be lost.

“Democratic senators should know better. And their behavior in supporting this aggression will only cost them more elections,” Moore wrote in his Substack article on Saturday. “Voters under 45 and people of color combined (making up nearly half the electorate), have no interest in war and would rather our government spend our money on our schools, our elderly, and our broken health care system.

“Time to cut Bibi off,” he said, using the nickname for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

His remarks come after Vice President Harris was defeated earlier this month in the presidential election by President-elect Trump, losing all seven battleground states. Republicans captured the majority in the Senate and were able to retain a slim majority in the House.

Harris was heavily criticized on the trail for refusing to break with Biden on the war and propose tougher action on Israel, despite a growing conflict that angered voters on the left who want Israel out of Gaza and Lebanon.

Moore has previously cautioned Democrats about their support for Israel and that it might backfire on them come Election Day. After Israel recovered the dead bodies of six hostages in early September, Moore wrote in his newsletter that Netanyahu played President Biden “like a sucker.”

Despite ridiculing the senators that helped defeat three resolutions sponsored by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) that would have blocked sales of some offensive weapons to Israel’s military, the activist praised the 19 upper-chamber lawmakers who voted to support the initiative. The move showcased that there is some resistance to Israel’s handling of the offensive in Gaza that has killed over 44,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials. The tally does not differentiate between civilians and combatants.

“But something amazing happened exactly 10 days ago: 19 Democratic and Independent Senators stood up for the first time and voted to STOP the sending of three shipments of American weapons to Israel,” Moore wrote in his recent post.

“It was a never-before rebuke to warn Netanyahu that millions of Americans have had enough of his slaughter of innocent civilians,” he added. “Of course, to Netanyahu, Palestinians are not ‘innocent’ because, well, they don’t exist.”

Biden on Tuesday signaled that his administration would make a renewed push to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. The remarks came as Washington and France brokered a temporary pause in fighting between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

“Over the coming days, the United States will make another push with Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel and others to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza so the hostages be released and the end of the war without Hamas in power, that becomes possible,” Biden said Tuesday.

The ceasefire in Lebanon has gotten off to a rocky start, however, as both sides have accused the other of violating the terms.
