“The Daily Show’s” Desi Lydic weighed in on the seemingly friendly interaction between President-elect Trump and former President Obama at the funeral service for former President Carter, quipping that “someone’s trying to make Elon [Musk] jealous.”
Lydic characterized the exchange during Thursday’s edition of the late-night show as “one surprising moment of chemistry”
“Ooooh, someone’s trying to make Elon jealous,” she joked Thursday night, referencing Musk’s rise as one of Trump’s closest allies and advisors during the 2024 presidential election, including heavily financially backing his successful White House bid against Vice President Harris.
“It’s a little weird for Obama though, right? To go from ‘this guy is future Hitler’ to ‘oh, man, cool story, future Hitler,’” she added.
Obama and Trump were seated next to each other during the Thursday funeral in Washington. The two smiled and laughed during the conversation, months after a heated election cycle when both men slammed each other on the campaign trail.
Trump acknowledged Thursday night that the exchange looked “friendly.”
“I didn’t realize how friendly it looked,” he said ahead of his meeting with GOP governors at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
“I saw it on your wonderful network, just a little while ago before I came in, and I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other,’” he told Fox News reporter Peter Doocy. “And we probably do.”
The president-elect added that Obama and him “just got along” despite their “different philosophies.”
“But I got along with everybody on that,” the president-elect continued without providing details about what was said between the two on Thursday. “You know, we met backstage before we went on, and I thought it was a beautiful service, but we all got along very well.”
