The sales of new passenger cars in Russia surged by 48.4% in 2024, with a total of 1.571 million vehicles sold, according to a report published by Autostat.
This performance marks the best result for the Russian car market in the past five years, the report said.
The last time sales were comparably high was in 2019, with 1.59 million new passenger cars sold.
Five automotive brands dominated the market, collectively accounting for two-thirds of all new car sales last year.
The report said that the domestic brand LADA retained its position as the market leader, selling 436.2 thousand cars.
Haval, a Chinese manufacturer, took second place and led among foreign brands with 190.6 thousand cars sold.
Three additional Chinese brands also established their presence in the Russian market during this tenure, each surpassing the 100 thousand sales mark.
Chery sold 157 thousand cars, Geely moved 149.1 thousand units, and Changan reached 106.1 thousand cars sold.
The report added that the LADA Granta remained the “best-selling” model in Russia for the third consecutive year, with sales totalling 201.5 thousand cars in 2024.
LADA Vesta model followed with 123.2 thousand cars sold.
The Haval Jolion continued to be the top foreign model, with 83.8 thousand vehicles purchased.
Additionally, two Chery crossover models, the Tiggo 7 PRO Max and Tiggo 4 PRO, were among the top five best-sellers, with 64.8 thousand and 52.7 thousand cars sold, respectively.
