The Sphere In Las Vegas Will Turn Into An Enormous Pizza

Pizza Hut will turn Sphere, the new but already legendary Las Vegas entertainment venue and advertising platform, into a giant pepperoni pizza on Tuesday.

What Pizza Hut is calling a Pie in the Sky will be there to promote the restaurant chain’s new $7 Deal Lover’s Menu, which features pizza, pastas, Pizza Hut Melts, breadsticks, desserts and more. And those near Sphere on Tuesday will get the chance to scan a QR code and redeem a free medium pizza (much smaller than the one displayed on the Sphere’s exterior, unfortunately) or another item to experience the new Deal Lover’s Menu, while supplies last between 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. PST.

“How do you remind the entire country you just launched a $7 Deal Lover’s Menu? You launch a giant Pie in the Sky in Las Vegas,” Pizza Hut chief marketing officer Lindsay Morgan said in a statement. “Knowing a lot of pizza lovers will be traveling across the country on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, we wanted to turn our new $7 Deal Lover’s Menu into our biggest deal yet. We turned Sphere into a giant pizza as a fun way to remind fans about our new value menu that offers our iconic dishes for an affordable price without sacrificing quality.”

Sphere, which opened on September 29 and is in the middle of a much-buzzed-about U2 residency, is an instant sensation. Demand for concert tickets is so high that casino hosts are being deluged with requests while marketing has been limited. The arena, which we hear will announce another high-profile residency soon, seems to sell itself at this moment.

Meanwhile, the T-Mobile Zone at the Sphere had some of the most coveted seats during the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix this past weekend. And on Sunday, guests entered Sphere for an over-the-top post-race brunch.

Pizza Hut, which has done events and collaborated on a bucket hat with B.J. Novak’s Chain pop-up in Los Angeles, is in the middle of a creative marketing push that’s exposing it to a youthful and celebrity-adjacent audience. Chain’s Pizza Hut bucket hat became a viral sensation, with all 1,000 of the limited-edition drop selling out in less than a day, even before Drew Barrymore wore one on television. A second release of 1,000 hats also sold out in less than a day.

Novak and chef Tim Hollingsworth’s inaugural ChainFest on December 1-3 will serve a new take on Pizza Hut with top-tier ingredients: Hollingsworth, who runs Otium in Los Angeles, and his team will make Buffalo Chicken Lovers’ + Shroom Supreme Personal Pan Pizzettes. ChainFest will also feature exclusive merch and riffs on food-and-drink items from Chilis, Dunkin’, Jack in the Box, Panda Express, Red Robin and Sonic.
