House Republican leadership is expected to provide an update on the status of Speaker Johnson’s (R-La.) proposed continuing resolution, which would provide six months of government funding and include a measure requiring proof of citizenship to vote.
The latter provision is favored by former President Trump.
In recent days, that plan has appeared to unravel, with at least some Republican members concerned that a six-month funding plan would be inappropriate for military expenses, among other concerns. Lawmakers have until 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 30 to pass legislation to avert a government shutdown.
